What size are the Kennel
Quilts?
Kennel Quilts are approximately 12" x 18" which fit perfectly
in small kennels. Check our guidelines
for more information in making Kennel Quilts.
Can we fudge on the size?
Sure. They just need to be approximately 12" x 18". Check our
guidelines for more information in
making Kennel Quilts.
Do they have to be pretty?
The small pets are looking for comfort. They do not mind what the
Kennel Quilts look like.
What about bigger Kennel
Quilts?
After a disaster, the shelters end up with lots of blankets and towels
as they are more readily available. It's the smaller animals that usually
have trouble finding something soft that fits in their kennels or carriers.
That is why we focus on the smaller quilts that are approximately 12"
x 18".
What fabrics, batting,
and thread do we use?
We only use 100% cotton in our Kennel Quilts on the advice of a veterinarian.
This includes the fabric, batting, and thread. Do not use fleece for it
sheds to much. Do not use flannel for it often has synthetic fibers. Batting
cannot have scrim for scrim is usually made of polyester. This is a safety
issue in case the pet chews the Kennel Quilt. Check our guidelines
for more information in making Kennel Quilts.
How many do I send?
It is your call. You can send as few or as many you like to one or more
shelters. We understand that some people can only afford one mailing of
Kennel Quilts, and that is just fine. Every Kennel Quilt counts. Check
our Current Needs to see what shelters
are requesting Kennel Quilts.

Where do we send
the Kennel Quilts
You send the Kennel Quilts directly to the shelter. Check our Current
Needs to see what shelters are requesting Kennel Quilts.
Do we know how many
Kennel Quilts a shelter needs?
During a disaster, shelters have no idea how many pets will be coming
in. They have rescue groups bringing in pets as well as the pets from
evacuees. Many times temporary shelters are set up to take care of the
pets. So as far as Kennel Quilts go, they can probably use all that they
get.
What is the best
way to ship?
Use the method that is the most economical for you. You can get almost
24 Kennel Quilts in a USPS Flat rate medium size box. A USPS Flat rate
padded envelope can hold 6 or 7. The envelopes and boxes are free. You
can roll the quilts together in three's or four's and stuff them in. You
may have to do a little bit of shoving, but that's ok. UPS were found
to be more expensive plus you have to supply the box. However, check with
UPS and get an idea of what they charge. Some have said that FedEx are
not convenient.
Postage too much
for a small income.
We agree with you that postage is too much. However, you can make Kennel
Quilts for your local shelter and I am sure they would be thrilled to
receive them.
Do we have to use one
of your patterns?
No. Be creative. Kennel Quilts are just perfect for using up those scraps
and it's a win/win situation for the quilters and the pets. Just make
sure it is approximately 12" x 18".
Do I prewash the fabric?
You do not have to prewash the fabric, but wash the Kennel Quilt after
it is made.
How do I quilt it?
Check out our free patterns. Each give
quilting suggestion. You can pretty much quilt as you wish, but make sure
you use tight stitches. Think of the little claws pulling them out particularly
if the kitty is making biscuits aka kneading.
